King of the Hill
Summary
The brainchild of Jangular and the Blaster Tag Association, this game is the oldest continual competitive format and the only one that involves respawning, making it one of the more engaging games to watch.
The objective is to control hills for the longest cumulative time after a set time. Each hill is equipped with, essentially, modified and oversized chess timers contained in five-gallon buckets. These buckets are arranged perpendicular to the team's home base, where players retreat to respawn. A team's score increased exponentially with the number of hills they controlled. However, as waves of opponents respawned onto the field, maintaining control of the hills became increasingly challenging, providing opportunities for the opposing team to reclaim possession.
This year, the Blaster Tag Association made the most significant update to their ruleset since 2018. Changes include a return to a rectangular field layout, a wider cover variety, and a flat FPS cap between springers and electronic blasters.
