BLASTER SAFETY
TAKE HIGH-PERFORMANCE BLASTER HANDLING AND CARE SERIOUSLY!
OUT OF DARTS DOES NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR BLASTER HANDLING OR MISUSE. READ THIS PAGE CAREFULLY AND COMPLETELY!
If you have questions after reading the entire page, please email us directly at orders@outofdarts.com. Your safety is my greatest concern!
High-Performance Blaster Safety:
The Nerf, Foam-Flinging, and Blaster Tag hobby is a safe and fun activity for a wide variety of ages. However, some high-performance blasters can be extremely dangerous if handled incorrectly. Failure to follow instructions may result in personal injury or property damage.
If you are new to using high-FPS blasters, read this page thoroughly. Additionally, you MUST read the owner’s manuals and documentation for your blasters and accessories. This page is not a substitute or replacement for manufacturer instructions or advice!
ALWAYS wear eye or face protection:
Playing or being in the vicinity of blasters requires some level of eye protection. Never fire a blaster if anyone in the firing zone is not wearing appropriate safety gear, as a dart impact at any kinetic energy level can cause permanent eye injury and potential vision loss. With the simplest safety glasses costing as little as $2 each, it doesn’t make sense not to wear a pair.
As the velocity and kinetic energy of the dart increase, the eye and face protection requirements also increase. Impact-rated face shields and paintball-style facemasks are highly recommended when using ultra-high-FPS blasters.
ALWAYS be aware of potential hazards:
Never aim or fire at eyes, faces, animals, or any person who is not an active, consenting participant in a safe and controlled environment. Ensure your downrange area is completely clear of pets, unprotected bystanders, and fragile property.
Due to the high velocities of ultra-high-performance blasters (~300+ FPS), never fire at another person at close range. Always establish and strictly enforce a generous minimum engagement distance during games to prevent severe welting, bruising, or skin breaks.
Blaster Age Restrictions + Guidelines:
Out of Darts classifies each blaster sold on the shop into one of the following age groups:
· Ages 8+: 0~99 FPS (0~1 Joules) -- “stock” or “elite” level blasters
· Ages 14+: 100~300 FPS (1~4 Joules) -- “rival” and “pro” level blasters
· Ages 18+: ~300+FPS (4+ Joules) or blasters requiring extra care and supervision
While these classifications are good guidelines, select federal, regional, and municipal laws and regulations take precedence. Adult supervision is highly recommended, if not required, when playing with blasters.
Some blasters, including 300+ FPS blasters, High-Pressure Air (HPA) blasters, and select DIY electronic blaster kits, are not considered toys and must be operated strictly by adults aged 18 and older. Always store them securely and keep out of reach of children.
Dart + Ammo Safety:
The Darts, rival rounds, and other foam-flinging ammunition used are just as important to safety as the blaster itself! To prevent injury and blaster malfunctions, do not use hard-tipped, “Full Vinyl Jacket (FVJ)” darts or rival rounds with stiffer or firmer foam, and never fire damaged, dirty, or modified darts. When in doubt, always purchase fresh darts from a reputable source (not Amazon).
Short or “half-length” foam darts and other small ammo types present a potential choking hazard to younger players. Keep all foam ammo out of the reach of children.
LiPo Battery Safety:
Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries can be extremely dangerous if handled incorrectly. Please read our LiPo Safety Page thoroughly for more information.
Blaster Transportation Safety:
When you fly, your batteries, blasters, and tools all have specific rules to follow. Certain gear must be in your checked bag, while others must be in your carry-on bag. Read our Nerf Travel Guide for more in-depth information.
