It works mostly as intended. The battery I use (a "Hydro Strike Pulsar" gel blaster rechargeable battery) was too big to use without cutting bits out of the existing battery bay. However, I don't have enough experience to know if that is expected, or if my battery is non-standard.
Furthermore, I modded my Clip Mania to be able to switch back to regular AAs when I want, and none of the cuts I did affected that functionality. You do have to fill in the dead space when using AAs to keep them in place, but imagine 95% of people won't care about that at all.
